When is a PSP not a PSP? When it’s a PSP

The PSP is a great machine. Some people say it lacks great games but, while a few more would never hurt, I’ve played plenty. What’s weird is that, not long after PSP’s initial launch, Sony seem to have promoted it as everything but a games machine. New add-on devices have been announced to increase its non-gaming functionality, making its key strength even less clear. So, is it a games machine anymore? Pushing the Wii positioning.
I was in Game recently looking at all the accessories you can get for the Wii: the steering wheel, golf club, tennis racquet, shotgun, crossbow, fishing rod, the list goes on… But mostly these are simple extensions of the Wiimote; they don’t actually do anything. However the ‘balance board’ is coming to the UK and proves to step up beyond the capabilities of Wiimote prosthetics.

Game Over for the Music Industry
It’s official, games are bigger business than music. Well, it is if you look at retail revenues in the UK. For the very first time, 2007 saw games earn more retail revenue than music, and it’s set to continue. With the saturation of iPods stuffed onto every commuting train, how has this happened?

EA Starts Social Networking Division
When EA Games sets up a new division, it’s always worth taking note.
Yesterday, EA announced its new division called EA Blueprint, a division solely on creating games for social networking sites such as Facebook. EA Blueprint’s games will be a mix of their existing IP and new titles. The debut original title is reported as being Facebook Smarty Pants. read full post »
