High definition TV on your mobile, why not … a new Graphics Processing Unit could be the answer with 1080p high definition pictures brought to your mobile device by ‘ARM‘.
The Multi-core Mali-400 MP has a single vertex processor capable of 30 million triangles a second, which is not a million triangles away from current games consoles.
The GPU can hold between one and four fragment processors, potentially creating in excess of a billion pixels a second … so enough to deliver 1080p.
Of course there’s not a lot of point in having a HD screen that’s only a few centimeters square but include a video output and ‘hay presto’ … HD to go.
Don’t hold your breath though … products using the Mali-400 GPU won’t start appearing on the market until approx 2010.
