Today at 6pm (09.06.08) will be the long awaited announcement of the iPhone 2 at Apple’s annual developer event in San Fran. With all the hype surrounding it in the past few months we must remember that it’s so far all been just that.
The only pseudo-certainty is that it’s going to be 3G, and it’ll only be sheer stupidity on Apple’s part if it isn’t.
Other rumours include: 16gb and 32gb models will overtake the 8bg and 16gb ones
An iPhone nano may be unveiled Integrated GPS, or satellite tracking, creating a full Sat Nav device. Some sort of Mobile TV functionality Will come free to new subscribers to O2 (or at least won’t cost as much as £269 anymore).
Will be subsidised for current owners wanting an upgrade
* be aware that these are all rumours until 6pm. We’ll update you on actual announcements when they happen *
…but don’t go queuing up Regent’s Street just yet. With no UK press conference planned we’re looking at a pre-Christmas launch here, at least. Instead get on eBay in the next couple of weeks and pick up an ‘old’ Mark 1 from a heap which will be uploaded for sale at a fraction of their original cost!

ReportI hear Apple are dead keen on making sure consumers cannot hack the iPhone for their own networks. That sounds like a challange for the hackers out there if ever there was one!

ReportThe harder they come the bigger they fall. For every security feature there’s ten hackers ready to crack it, so I’m sure it won’t be a problem getting an unlocked one this time round either.
As for the launch…well we got some hits and several misses…pretty much normal for this sort of thing. So official main points of interest for the new iPhone 3G are:
It will be 3G (well duh!)
It will have GPS functionality
Come with iPhone 2.0 software, crucially including the highly anticipated App Store on the phone which will work both over network and Wi-fi.
It will cost around £100 (possibly free on O2)
The UK will be part of the July launch
So we’re all semi-excited then?….dunno, I might still wait for v.3 with a better camera.
