When is a PSP not a PSP? When it’s a PSP

The PSP is a great machine. Some people say it lacks great games but, while a few more would never hurt, I’ve played plenty. What’s weird is that, not long after PSP’s initial launch, Sony seem to have promoted it as everything but a games machine. New add-on devices have been announced to increase its non-gaming functionality, making its key strength even less clear. So, is it a games machine anymore? The Video Arcade is Dead. Long Live the Video Arcade.

Everything changes. 10 years ago who would have thought pubs would be smoke-free, Def Leppard would release their new single via a console game (seriously, it’s being released via Guitar Hero) before it hits the shops, and the mass market would be embracing gaming especially a games console where you wave your arms about? So, could the video arcade be the next great social meeting place?

Some countries like Sweden are mad for it, some in ‘New Europe’ are less bothered. I have been debating for a while now about whether to get a PS3 or a 360. I’ve taken my time however because I’ve known that the only reason I have for buying one is to play one game - GTA IV. The trailer above is my favourite one and just gives you an idea of how mind-blowingly entertaining and immersive I think this game will be. read full post »
