Amalgamate me

fwicki lets you mashup those feeds

Netvibes is the most useful site I use online. It lets me read three different email accounts, see what my Facebook notifications are (without having to read the droll mini feed), and catch up on all the blogs I read in one page through RSS feeds. It’s so much easier to read it all on one page than browsing individual sites - Im sure I actually read more blogs as a result. It’s great but it got me thinking - what if, instead of reading lots of different feeds, you just needed one?

fwicki lets you create “Feed Mashups” which effectively combine different feeds into one simple feed. This is great for small screens where sites like Netvibes aren’t so easy to use (not even their iphone version). So now, on the move, I just select my fwicki feed and all my favourite blogs are in one feed. Brilliant! The only drawback is that the first fwicki is free, but then you have to pay. (Packages start at $5 for ten fwickis.) If netvibes can provide a service for free, Im not sure I need to pay fwicki for what really seems to be a potential netvibes add on.

Nonethless, I love the idea behind it. Wouldnt this be great for amalgamating emails too? Amalgamation sites aren’t new. iGoogle and Netvibes are prominent examples and I’m waiting for Google’s recently acquired Grand Central to launch in the UK. Soon all my phones will be under the control of one number. Mwah ha ha. Can you think of any other amalgamation sites?
